Our relationship with Curaçao began in 2019, when we chose the island to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. What was intended to be a special vacation turned into something much more significant.
From the moment we arrived, Curaçao felt different. The island offered the kind of beauty that is easy to appreciate—clear water, dependable sunshine, and colorful architecture—but what stayed with us most was the atmosphere. The people were welcoming, the pace of life was refreshingly unhurried, and there was a sense that this was a place where one could truly settle in rather than simply pass through.
Since that first visit, we have returned at least once every year, and in some years twice. Along the way, we have brought family and friends so they could experience the island we had come to care about so deeply.
Over time, our perspective began to shift. We stopped asking, "When can we come back?" and started asking, "What would it be like to live here?" This curiosity led us to explore aspects of Curaçao culture that we had previously overlooked.
Two years ago, we made a decision to answer that question in a meaningful way. Rather than treating Curaçao solely as a vacation destination, we committed to spending at least six months on the island to experience daily life as residents rather than tourists. This decision set us on a new journey of discovering what Curaçao living truly entails.
We continue to work remotely, which gives us the opportunity to balance professional responsibilities with the adventure of living in a new environment. We have embraced scuba diving and are steadily expanding our skills while exploring some of the finest shore diving in the Caribbean. We are building relationships with local residents and fellow expatriates, learning more about the island's unique culture and traditions, and exploring what long-term residency might look like.
Perhaps most importantly, we are learning what it means to navigate everyday life in Curaçao—paying utility bills, understanding banking and currency, finding the best local shops and restaurants, and discovering the routines that transform a destination into a home.
Enjoy Curaçao was created to document that experience and to share what we learn with others.
Whether you are planning your first trip, considering an extended stay, or seriously exploring the possibility of relocating, our goal is to provide thoughtful, practical, and honest information based on firsthand experiences of Curaçao tourism.
We are not travel influencers chasing the next trend. We are a couple in our 50s who fell in love with a remarkable island and decided to explore what it might mean to make it part of our lives.
We hope our journey helps you plan your own—and perhaps discover, as we did, that Curaçao is more than a place to visit. It is a place to live, explore, and enjoy.
At enjoycuracao.com, we believe that building a strong and supportive community is essential for our success in promoting Curaçao culture and enhancing Curaçao living. That's why we've created a platform that puts people first, fostering a sense of belonging and connection among our users while celebrating the vibrant aspects of Curaçao tourism.
